The Hong Kong Stewards Cup was first staged at the Happy Valley racecourse on May 22, 1954. Since then, it has become the first leg of the Hong Kong Triple Crown since the series was inaugurated during the 1991-1992 Hong Kong horse racing season. It is followed by the Hong Kong Gold Cup in February and the Hong Kong Champions and Chater Cup in late May or early June.

The Stewards Cup is a 1600-metre, Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race that is annually held during the later part of January at the Sha Tin racecourse. It also has a currently prize pool of HK$8,000,000. This turf race is open to race horses aged three years and up.

During the last five years of the Hong Kong Stewards Cup, trainer Andreas Schutz has two wins and two second place finishes. Also, John Moore got one victory and three third place finishes. As for the jockeys, Belgian Christophe Soumillion grabbed two victories and one second place finish.

In the 2010 Hong Kong Stewards Cup, Fellowship maintained his winning ways to win this race. During the early stages of the race, Fellowship was behind midfield but he slowly narrowed the gap and crept up on the field at the start of the straight.

With 200 metres to go, Fellowship pulled in front of the fast-finishing Thumbs Up to claim victory. Thumbs Up finished second, a head behind Fellowship while Good Ba Ba grabbed the third spot finishing a half length back. Special Days came in at fourth place.

This victory by Fellowship gave jockey Zac Purton his first Hong Kong Group 1 victory. Also, this victory can after he finished third to Good Ba Ba at the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Mile.
