Sha Tin Race Track

The Sha Tin races in Hong Kong are conducted at the Sha Tin Racecourse, which was built in 1978. The biggest Hong Kong races are held at the Sha Tin racetrack, which has had its capacity increased to over 80,000 spectators.

Group One Feature races at Sha Tin Racecourse include:

  • The Hong Kong Derby
  • The Queen Elizabeth II Cup
  • The Champions Mile
  • The Hong Kong International Races
  • The Hong Kong Triple Crown.

The Sha Tin racecourse is home to all the racehorses in Hong Kong with its capacity to stable 1260 horses in 23 stables at the track.

This is the one of the key feature that makes betting on Hong Kong races so popular all over the world. There is only a limited pool of horses (1260) to choose from so when a horse is rising through the classes then the keen judges can bet with confidence that there is probably not going to be one “jumping out of the ground” to beat you.

The development of Sha Tin Racecourse has seen it naturally become the home for the Equine Hospital and the Racing Laboratory.

Racing at Sha Tin is usually conducted on Saturday afternoons but the track also holds other meetings on public holidays as the Hong Kong Racing Calendar continues to expand each year.
