2011 Queensland Oaks

The 2011 Queensland Oaks is the 60^th edition of this Group 1 race for three-old-fillies and it will be held on the 4^th of June at the Eagle Farm Racecourse in Brisbane. This set weights race is held over 2400 metres and is included in the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival together with other Group 1 races such as the Queensland Derby, the TJ Smith Stakes and the Stradbroke Handicap.

Each thoroughbred that makes its way to the final field of the 2011 Queensland Oaks are eyeing the top prize which is the biggest share of the race’s $400,000 prize pool. Since it is a set weights race, those that have better track records have the advantage in this race but it does not mean that they gain an outright victory. Like they say, the race is not over unless the horses have crossed the winning post.

The 2011 Queensland Oaks is the only Group 1 race during the Queensland Oaks Day but it does not mean that the other races are not as exciting. There will be five group races during the day and the other four are the QTC Sires Produce Stakes, the PJ OShea Stakes, the Dane Ripper Quality and the QTC Cup which are all Group 2 races.

The QTC Sires Produce Stakes is a 1400-metre set weights race for two-year-old thoroughbreds with a prize pool of $250,000. Meanwhile, the 2200-metre PJ O’Shea Stakes is a weight-for-age race with a $250,000 prize pool. The Dane Ripper Quality is a 1400-metre set weights plus penalties race with a prize pool of $200,000 while the QTC Cup is a 1300-metre quality handicap race with a prize purse of $175,000.

The final field of the 2011 Queensland Oaks does not include defending champion Miss Keepsake but this year’s field is headlined by fillies such as Divorces, Hidden Kisses and Fillydelphia. Aside from the intense horse racing action, the 2011 Queensland Oaks Day also features a Fashion on the Field competition which will be held at the Eagle Farm Fashion Lawn.

This package includes complimentary food and drinks as well as other treats that a regular member enjoys. You can also buy a Fashion Marquee ticket for $183. Pensioners and children of at most 18 years old can go in for free.
