Trainer Gai Waterhouse said that defending Flight Stakes champion More Joyous has significantly improved in terms of race form and condition. Thus, the multi-awarded female trainer said that her horse can handle the tough physical preparation that her schedule demands.
Coming from her victory at the Group 1 Flight Stakes, More Joyous has embattled physical injuries that have sidelined him from heavy competition as she was raced for only a number of times after her victory. Although she raced only twice in autumn, she won both races but she struggled in defeating Hurtle Myrtle at the Surround Stakes.
This prompted More Joyous’ camp to let her have some rest until her campaign was eventually aborted. However, Waterhouse said that the Flight Stakes winner is now stronger and bigger in the neck and shoulders area. Because of this, the issue about the weakness and fragility of More Joyous is a thing of the past. Waterhouse even claimed that she is now as tough as a male race horse.
In a barrier trial at the Randwick racecourse earlier this month, the four-year-old More Joyous trounced on her stablemate, the Group 1 winner Rock Kingdom, and Australian Guineas winner Rock Classic. More Joyous will resume racing at the Sheraco Stakes at the Rosehill Racecourse on Saturday as she tries to add to her six victories in nine career starts.
The 2010 Flight Stakes will take place on Epsom Handicap Day on the 2nd of October together with the Spring Champion Stakes, The Metropolitan and the Epsom Handicap. This 1600-metre horse race is exclusively for fillies and the usual lead-up races for it are the Furious Stakes, Silver Shadow Stakes and the Tea Rose Stakes.
The Silver Shadow Stakes, Furious Stakes, Tea Rose Stakes and Flight Stakes form the Princess Series of racing. Nine of the eleven past winners of the Flight Stakes came from the Tea Rose Stakes. The final list of participating fillies for the Flight Stakes will be shown on the 29th of September.
