Hong Kong Trio to Compete in Yasuda Kinen
Fresh off the victory of Green Birdie in the KrisFlyer International Sprint, the main horses of the third barrier trial heat at the Sha Tin racecourse are leaving for Japan to compete at the Group One Yasuda Kinen on June 6. Race horses Sight Winner, Beauty Flash and Fellowship registered 1000-metre times of 58.33 seconds which turned out to be the fastest times during the tune-ups.
Beauty Flash which is trained by Tony Cruz and jockeyed by Matthew Chadwick displayed his trademark speed through the entire tune-up to claim victory over John Size’s Sight Winner by a half-length deficit. Olivier Doleuze steered Sight Winner that day but it will be Craig Williams who is currently completing a three-month stint in Japan will ride Sight Winner in the Yasuda Kinen.
Meanwhile, Fellowship which is trained by Paul O’ Sullivan had a comfortable run under Zac Purton’s reins. Also, Sight Winner’s stablemate Diego was jockeyed by Douglas Whyte as of late and he has been making significant improvements during the trials after undergoing a gelding operation.
Also, trainer Dennis Yip Chor-hong is happ to see his young horses Million Darling, Fat Choy Oohlala and Surfer Boy perform very well during their respective heats. Jockey Brett Prebble raced Surfer Boy to run 800 metres and finished four lengths away from the winner Supreme Fay Fay who timed in at 47.15 seconds.
On the other hand, Million Darling finished third in the second 800 metre heat behind the 47.50 seconds of Lucky Marble after having a freshening up after finishing fourth at the 1,200-metre Happy Valley. The three-year old race horse has shown significant improvement that could increase his rating to the current level of 52 before the racing season ends.
Fat Choy Oohlala ran over 1,000 metres and won with a time of 59.32 seconds. With these three horses working well for the home stretch, Prebble will have a good chance during the premiership.
