Due to a surprising first-up defeat, the chances that Crystal Lily will participate in the Sydney spring racing carnival became stronger. In what is considered as a minor shift in their campaign, Crystal Lily owner David Moodie said that they are strongly eyeing a run at the Group One 2010 Golden Rose Stakes at the Rosehill racecourse on Saturday as long as the right conditions for the said horse prevail.

rosehillMoodie told Sky Sports Radio that by weighing up all the options, a run in Sydney would be their Plan A only if the conditions of the track are favorable to them. Moodie added that the tracks in Sydney can dry up a bit faster than the horse racing tracks in Melbourne especially in the current cold conditions that are being experienced. Therefore, Moodie has strongly hinted a Golden Rose Stakes run for Crystal Lily.

On a rain-soaked Caulfield racecourse on Saturday, Crystal Lily went back into horse racing action but was defeated by Panipique at the Listed Quezette Stakes even though the filly is the short-price favourite to win the race.

During the Sydney autumn racing carnival, Crystal Lily participated in two races and won both. These races are the Sweet Embrace Stakes and the $3.5 million Golden Slipper. Because of which, the tease of participating in the 1400-metre, $1 million Golden Rose with set weight conditions is tempting. Moodie said that they have not ventured in the step up to 1400 metres but he’s got to confront that anyhow.

During the opening markets for the Golden Rose Stakes by TAB SportsBet, Crystal Lily is the pre-race favourite with a 7.50 betting odd. A month after, she now has an 11.00 betting odd while Masquerader has become the top favourite with a 4.60 betting odd following an impressive comeback when the race horse finished second under a heavy weight at the Run to The Rose at the Rosehill races.

Vain Stakes winner Toorak Toff is now the second favourite with a 5.00 betting odd while undefeated colt Squamosa has a betting odd of 6.00.

Meanwhile, one-time favourite Hinchinbrook is out of the Golden Rose Stakes. Trainer Gerald Ryan made the decision for the said race would come very soon after the three-year-old race horse missed the Starlight Stakes because of an elevated race morning temperature. Ryan added that is isn’t ideal for Hinchinbrook to have a trial race soon before the Golden Rose for it could set him back again.
